How does this website pay for itself?

I don't understand the revenue model of this website. I'm getting no ads, I don't have any adblocker. I'm using Edge browser (it says in tha auto-report I'm using Chrome, but its Edge). Is the lack of ads due to using vpn? I tried different locations, no ads anywhere. Is that not the model? Or do you stay afloat just from getting a cut from the things people buy? Are you able to shed some light on this?

• Thanks for your question! Happy to shed some light on that.

  The site is ad-supported, but there are various reasons why you might not be seeing them on your visit, even when you don't use an ad blocker. We don't show ads to people in certain countries, for example, because the average revenue per visitor is relatively low there. Ads impact the user experience and we need them to keep the site afloat, but we'd rather not show any when it doesn't make sense financially.

  It's also possible that your use of a VPN prevents the ads from loading as we can't always be sure it's a human being using the VPN or if it's a robot.

  As a result, some visitors will be able to browse the site without any ads at all. Our intent is for that to improve their experience, but I can imagine it may also raise questions about how the site is monetized and if the downloads are safe.

  We'll look into making it more obvious when ads are suppressed.

  We also get a cut from screensavers purchased through the site, but that only applies to < 10% of the screensavers in our archive, the rest of them are free.

• No worries, I didn't interpret it that way. In fact, it was very helpful feedback. Because of your post, we've just added a little notice on all pages where ads would normally be shown, explaining that ads are disabled for that region.
