Planet Quest Screensaver breaks screensaver functionality.

After I installed planet quest, and ran the screensaver, it broke the screensaver functionality in windows. Screensavers (at least other screensavers) would no longer run when scheduled, only if I pressed preview. Additionally a new entry in the screensaver list would appear whenever I ran a screensaver called "PName_Of_Screensaver" so if I selected "Mystify Your Mind" a new entry called "PMystify Your Mind" would appear that is a copy of the "Mystify Your Mind" screensaver. This would happen to other screensavers as well. Uninstalling Planet Quest, and other screensavers from 3d worlds, did not fix it and nether did running system file checker + dism or doing a registry clean. The Power Troubleshooter does make the entry dissapear, but then it comes right back when a screensaver runs. Screensavers still only run when when I press preview. I have run out of ideas to fix this, can anyone help?

  • Hi Matthew,

Sorry to learn this screensaver caused some issues for you on Windows.

I did notice after installing it just now that "PPlanet Quest" (with the double P) was listed among the screensavers, along with "Planet Quest" (single P). But that only happens the first time the Screen Saver Settings panel opens after installation of Planet Quest is completed. Once I reopen the panel, it's gone.

This also happens when I install other screensavers from the same developer, 3D Wonders, such as Cosmic Voyage. After installation I see "PCosmic Voyage" in the list. But again if I click "OK" and re-open the screen saver panel it's gone.

I'm assuming you've already tried a reboot of Windows? In case of a stuck process. Or selecting "(none)" in the list and saving, then re-opening the panel?

Is there any other software running that could prevent a screensaver from starting, such as security or anti-virus software (other than Windows Defender)?

  • If I select none, and then close and reopen the panel it does disappear, but then comes back the next time I run a screensaver and close and reopen the panel. It's been installed on my computer for a while now, and does seem to persist after a reboot. I have Malwarebytes installed.
