Lock Screen error: folder not supported because of its location?

when I select an album to use as my screen saver, I get an error message:" ____________ is not supported because of it's Location. Choose another file." Where do I locate the file I want to use for my screen saver?

  • Hi Steve,

That seems to be an error message related to the Lock Screen in Windows.

I tried a couple of things and was able to replicate the issue on my computer. It looks to me like a bug in Windows, where the problem is not the actual location of the album but the way it's selected after you click "Browse".

After you've clicked "Browse", a window will pop up where you can choose the folder you wish to use. The problem is that when you choose a folder from the "Quick access" links on the left side, e.g. the pinned links to "Downloads" or "Pictures", then that won't be accepted by the Lock Screen and you'll get that error you mentioned.

However, if you scroll down that same list, expand "This pc", then click your local drive (usually C:) and manually navigate to the same folder, it will be accepted.

So if you got the error selecting the "Pictures" folder from the "Quick access" links on the left, you can make that work by manually navigating to your local drive (under "This pc"), then "Users", then the folder for your username, and then "Pictures".

It's the same folder eventually, because those "Quick access" links are just shortcuts to the actual location of those folders on your computer hard drive, but the Lock Screen settings panel is fussy about it and for some reason trips over the shortcuts.

Here's a screenshot showing which links to use (green) and which not to use (red):

Let me know if you need any further assistance.
