Johnny Castaway instructions broken for DOSBox 0.74-3

Step 1 of "Step 4. Configure DOSBox to start Johnny Castaway" does not work on my Windows 10 1909 18363.592; Notepad opens up a binary file.

- Looking at the log window for DOSBox (the box behind the box) the configuration file is located at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\DOSBox\dosbox-0.74-3.conf where <username> is your user name.

This file should be edited using Notepad as described, rather than using the Windows 10 Start Menu shortcut.

Thanks for resurrecting a much-loved ancient screensaver, guys!

  • Update...

Apologies... it's not a broken link, it's Notepad under Windows 10.

It doesn't display the .conf file as basic ANSI/ASCII.

**I used TextPad to edit the .conf file.**

  • How strange that Notepad would not display the .conf text file normally, I've not seen that before. I'm glad you found the location of the file and were able to edit it using TextPad, and presumably you got the screensaver working :-)

Thanks for posting, it might help someone else if they run into this as well.
