Screensaver editor?

I have a particular screensaver that I really like (Aqua Surface 3), however I don't care for the way the date info is displayed. Does anyone know of a tool that would allow me to edit the screensaver and change the order of that info (I prefer day, month, date then year)? I sent a message to the creators but haven't gotten a response.

  • The creators of that screensaver have effectively gone out of business, I'm afraid, so I don't think it's likely they'll ever update the screensaver (or even respond).

The screensaver is made using Adobe Flash technology, which is in the process of being removed from Windows. Perhaps your computer hasn't installed that update yet. Once it's installed, however, this screensaver will stop working.

It may be possible to extract the Flash animation from the screensaver file, but I doubt it will be possible to change the date notation. You would need the source files for that, and only the creators will have those (as well as the rights to make changes).

Enjoy it while it still works!

  • Hi Rob, thanks for the info. As I noted in another post, I am still running Flash and have blocked the Windows update that kills it, so these screensavers are still working for me : )

  • Sorry, didn't realize it was the same Paul :-) That's one (minor) downside to not requiring registration on the message board.

You'll find the SWF file (screensaver.swf) in the following folder:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\ScreenJazz\Aqua Surface 3 Screensaver\data

If you feel like playing around with it, you could use a Flash decompiler such as the JPEXS Free Flash Decompiler to tinker with its various components. However, it might be tricky: I took a quick look and it looks like the scripts are obfuscated.

  • Thanks for the tip Rob, I'll check it out.
